What I know from my time in education leadership

Schools are increasingly recognising the need to better support neurodivergent children.

But often, staff feel as though they are left trying to bridge the gap without clear guidance. This means you might find:

  • Strategies vary between classrooms

  • Behaviour is still misunderstood

  • Children are coping, but not thriving

None of this is about a lack of effort on anyone's part.  It’s about improving understanding and consistency in approach.

When we understand how neurodivergent children experience school, we can change the environment and everything starts to shift. This is how we reduce overwhelm, support regulation, and build confidence.

My book

Become better informed about meeting neurodivergent children's needs.

Reclaiming the Narrative and Thriving with SEND

If we, as parents and educators, are able to better understand and meet the needs of neurodivergent children, we're taking that first step to shift the narrative from what's 'wrong' to what's possible.

The book explores how to make this shift, drawing on guidance from the DfE, insights from the ongoing Curriculum and Assessment Review, and research from the WEF and BPS. It also references influential thinkers such as Dr Gabor Maté, Sir Ken Robinson and Dr Becky Kennedy, and highlights how alternative models, including Global Academy, apprenticeships and alternative provision, offer powerful sources of inspiration.

Knowing what can be done and how to meet the needs of our children is key - once we know better, we can do better.
